Where to now?
July 25, 2013The giant sling shot
August 14, 2013Using the scissors to snip in the garden provides the children with a meaningful reason to practice their scissor skills. Some of those vegies were pretty to tough cut, and it took a lot of focus and concentration to individually hold and snip off each stem of the spinach.
As they chatted away about what they were doing, and had the occasional snack on a lettuce leaf or capsicum (or shared some with friends that came to see what they were doing) they delighted in the bugs and worms they found living in the garden, commented on how warm the sun felt on their backs, and giggled at the noisy kookaburra who seemed to find our presence rather amusing.
Over the course of the morning the children picked and washed their harvest and then we proudly placed it all in a large basket. We made a sign inviting our families to share our vegies. It was a lovely way for us to share our learning experience with the families.
We are all looking forward to picking our cauliflowers, peas, leeks, and lots more lettuce and parsley in the months to come, and also deciding together what we would like to plant next.

How fantastic! We have just applied for a Coles Landcare Grant to kickstart our Kitchen Garden. I can’t wait to have a harvest like yours!
