June 24, 2014On a very cool and drizzly day we all travelled by bus to Normanville Beach. Some of our mums and dads followed us in their cars.
As it was a very long way we stopped at the forest in Kuitpo to go to the toilet and have a run around.
When we finally arrived at Normanville Beach it was raining and a bit windy, but that did not bother us at all. The weather actually added to our enjoyment and excitement of the beach. Many children do not have the pleasure of exploring the beach in the colder months as we naturally see the beach as a summer destination. We had our morning fruit and a drink then it was time to explore the wonders of the beach.
Rugged up in our raincoats and jumpers we took off our shoes and hit the sand.
We ran on the sand with our shoes off and felt the sand between our toes.
We found shells and seaweed. One of our dad’s even thought it would be a great fashion accessory.
We dug big holes and little holes and watched with excitment as the water filled them up.
We paddled in the small waves and watched the water come in and out
—it seemed to be teasing us.
We made sandcastles.
And watched as the Sandcastles got washed away on the waters edge as the sea came in. We tried to guess how many times it would take for the castle to be completely washed away.
Some of us walked on the jetty looked down on the sand and the waves.

Some cheeky dolphins swam past us and seemed to be saying “Hello”
We wrote our names in the sand
We soaked up the smells and sounds of the beach, it really was very loud, windy, wet and chilly.
Walking in the wet sand felt much different than the dry sand. But it all needed to be washed off and lucky there was a tap at the top of the Boardwalk where we could wash off our feet and legs.
After lunch it was time to travel by bus to the rock pools at Lady Bay, which was only about 10 minutes up the road.
Once again it was drizzling rain so we kept on our raincoats and started to explore the Rock Pools.
Everyone was engaged in discovering and exploring every inch of the rock pools.
It never ceases to amaze me how much our parents truly enjoy the rock pools (many of them reminiscing about their own childhood) and everywhere you look there are bottoms up and hands in the water searching for that elusive crab. We did find a few but they did seem to be hiding from us today.
Some of us liked to get our feet wet and ventured out to the far pools, whilst some of us preferred to stay close to the edge of the sand. Either way there was so much to find and share with our friends.
The children’s curiosity and sense of adventure led to some fantastic discoveries and the sounds of laughing and squeals of excitement could be heard all up and down the bay.
Although reluctant to leave it was time to go back to kindy. Lucky for us Roger (our bus driver) had the shrek DVD for us to watch. Perfect way to travel home.
We were all very tired but very keen to share our day of learning and adventure with our families.
