Outdoor Kindy Week, Term 3, 2014. DAY 4
September 4, 2014Children Exploring …. Bush Kindy
November 5, 2014What an amazing opportunity bush kindy is for our children. This was my first experience of bush kindy at the rec grounds and I was absolutely blown away by how engaged the children were and how much the environment had to offer.
There was plenty of opportunity to explore and investigate; lots of bugs and creepy crawlies..
Opportunities to marvel at nature:
Opportunities to use all of our senses – to feel the wind on our faces, the tickle of the grasses, the ooziness of the mud! Opportunities to smell the onion weed, and the waft of cow manure over paddocks, along with the scent of wildflowers
Oh so many opportunities to touch and explore different textures.
There was lots of time to use our bodies in ways that strengthened our motor planning and fine motor and gross motor skills.
There were opportunities for literacy:
and creativity and problem solving too!
We climbed up, over, under, and around, and used our bodies to walk a long way down the bush track and back.
and even some time for relaxing in a tree, or resting under the club house, on the mats (out of the wind) listening to stories and having relaxation.
Relationships were strengthened
(I loved how this pile of rocks was a castle, a volcano, a dragon’s lair and a dinosaur’s cave all at the same time, with children entering and exiting the play as they needed to.) New friendships were developed:
Children worked together to solve problems and take turns..
There was the opportunity to feel big (and capable and independent):
and also time to wonder at the enormity of the world, and our small place in it:
It truly was a remarkable day – one full of awe and wonder and joy. I have a feeling I won’t be the only one sleeping well tonight!

I can’t wait for Lewis to be a part of bush kindy (and all loby kindy has to offer) next year. He was looking at the photos with me saying “is that me and Bella at kindy?”

Nice to see a new generation of children enjoying the bush track and I had hours of fun exploring it as a child.

Wow! Love the photos! These photos certainly show Jacob as we know him! Had to lol when I saw the photo of him with the sticks walking along the track. Jacob is always the one that will carry sticks on our walks/hikes. Thanks for sharing.

Magical photos of rich, authentic learning. After hearing all about it from our Grandson Oliver, I asked what he loves doing most at Kindy. His answer: “EVERYTHING! I love EVERYTHING at Kindy!” Thank you all!
