Nature Connect 2016 – the journey continues
April 30, 2016Nature Connect 2016 – literacy in action
May 22, 2016I had the pleasure of sitting with each of our children yesterday and discussing their first day at bush kindy with them. We chatted as they drew, and recalled, reflected and recorded their thoughts, feelings and experiences. I was amazed at the variety of things that each child recalled as the highlights of their day. I was excited to have them share with me just how differently each of them had immersed themselves in the first full day. I had thought of sharing some photos of each child with them before we started their reflections, but I’m so glad I didn’t. Getting to sit and talk about a shared experience, with only what they could personally recall gave me a lot of insight into each of them and their individual experience through only their eyes.
The story these children’s reflections don’t tell is that it wasn’t a perfect warm day. It was cold, it rained on and off much of the day, the wind was much less than the massive storms that had swept through and caused the previous day’s session to be cancelled, but it could still be heard amongst the trees, and felt on any exposed skin. Not one child even mentioned the rain and we talked about bush kindy. It was as if they were totally oblivious to it as a barrier to their play, and as accepting of it as part of nature as they are of the warmth of the sun on their bodies.
PS there are three more reflections to add … Keep watching this space Kloè, Chase & Lucy 🙂

Thanks Nic. What a great insight into our children and their first real experience at bush kindy. These children remind us to stop and take notice of what is around us. I am so excited for what is to come in the next two terms, as I have already learnt so much about the children and connected more deeply with each and everyone of them.
Exciting times ahead.

I can’t wait to come and hang out next week! It must be lovely to see such a familiar place with new eyes all over again!

Such a beautiful way to reflect on their first experiences. Thank you Nic! I’m excited to see what the rest of the year has in store.

Just priceless! I loved reading about the kids experiences at Bush Kindy. It will be great to meet them in that environment…
