Outdoor Kindy Week Term 2, 2014. Day 2

There was no getting away from the weather today.  We arrived to a yard soaked with water and some minor damage to our outdoor kitchen area from the strong winds over night.  It was raining so heavily that it was a struggle to get the fire started.  Fire lighters and newspaper were soaked within seconds, and the tiny flame from the match was quickly extinguished by the rain.

Outdoor Kindy week Term 2, 2014…..day 1

The first thing we heard as we woke this morning was the sound of rain on the roof, it was steady and rhythmical, but as the time to head to kindy drew nearer it cleared….but as always the children arrived prepared for what ever might eventuate – I think some may even have been a little disappointed by the lack of rain today! In providing our play based and child led programme,we have all learned to constantly assess the benefits of encouraging and allowing the children to take more risks as an integral part of their play. To trust children you need to first trust yourself . We value the richness and authenticity this brings to their learning, and the amazing discoveries they make about themselves and others.   When children are allowed

Outdoor Kindy Week. Term 4, 2013. Day 3

A light drizzle was falling as we arrived at kindy this morning. The ground was damp, the wood was damp and the smell of the gentle rain that had fallen overnight reminded us of how lucky we had been with the weather so far.  The campfire struggled to catch, but as the flames gently dried the timber, they produced a lovely warmth and a steady glow.  The air

Outdoor Kindy Week. Term 4, 2013. Day 2

The smoke from the fire drifted silently through the leaves of the trees as the first warm rays of sun began to peek over the fence, their dappled light playing with the smoke.  The outdoor environment was still and quiet, as if taking a breather, waiting in anticipation to be filled once again with joyful laughter, and the excited sounds of children at play. The tell tale
