{Nature Connect} Let’s build a shelter

The first of our weekly full day bush kindy sessions was held on Tuesday 8th June.   We are constantly amazed by the number of ways that children become totally immersed in a rich variety of meaningful learning experiences at every session and it would be impossible to share them all with you. Through these blog posts, we will share snippets of our days in the bush.  Little

Nature Connect, Bush Kindy … the journey begins for the bugs group

After already spending two days in the bush, staff were comfortable and excited to welcome the bugs group to our home base on Wednesday morning.   Their excitement and enthusiasm was evident as they milled around the fire after slipping on their red I.D vests, and cooked toast, chatted, and socialised to start the day.    We always suspected the launch of the program with outdoor

Nature Connect – Frogs’ First Week. The Beginning..

When we first thought about our Nature Connect Programme we knew it would be amazing and challenging and full of possibilities.  We were full of anticipation about what the week might hold, and excited to take our little people to the bush, but I don’t think any of us were fully aware of just what an awesome experience we would have – or how

Outdoor Kindy Week 2014. Term 4, Day 4

With each season comes the emergence of whole new set of challenges.  We have had plenty of experience in learning to cope with the cold and the wet that term 2 & 3 tend to throw at us, but todays forecast of 37 degrees really presented us with a whole new realm of challenges and learning opportunities. The day involved constant and ongoing risk assessment.  There

Outdoor Kindy Week 2014 Term 4, Day 3

What a stark contrast todays 30 plus temperatures provided to the experience of rain, cold and mud of outdoor kindy weeks in term 2 and 3.     Today was all about water!  We constructed a paddling ‘pool’ in the sandpit…. Everyone enjoyed the cool water.  Some immersed themselves in the whole experience, literally…. While some bided their time until they were free to explore and enjoy the tranquillity of the

Term 4 is a very busy term, and some planned activities still continue during outdoor week. Today included a dance session with Heidi from Dancify.  It was the perfect morning to be outside learning a new dance, and Heidi never fails to have the children totally captivated and engaged for the entire session. The yard was busy all day with small groups of children breaking away

Outdoor kindy week term 4 day 1

What a start to our Outdoor Kindy Week! It was a beautiful, mild, sunny day and the children arrived enthusiastic and ready for a fun-filled day of learning. The children had so many good ideas at morning meeting; pirates and treasure hunting thanks to a treasure map that arrived (antiqued with coffee and burnt around the edges) with one of our young

Bush Kindy – a Windy, Fun-Filled Day of Learning

What an amazing opportunity bush kindy is for our children.  This was my first experience of bush kindy at the rec grounds and I was absolutely blown away by how engaged the children were and how much the environment had to offer. There was plenty of opportunity to explore and investigate; lots of bugs and creepy crawlies.. Opportunities to marvel at nature: Opportunities to

Our final day of this terms outdoor kindy week was a lovely day.  Some parents and siblings joined us around the fire this morning.
